We came. We surfed. We shredded. It Was All-Time! 👻
This year’s Aqua Surf Halloween Shredfest Contest was an absolute blast! From spooky costumes to epic waves, our surf community brought the Halloween spirit to the beach in true California style at Tower 28 in Santa Monica!
Surfers of all ages paddled out for some friendly competition, showing off both their surf skills and their creativity. Between catching waves, cheering each other on, and rocking awesome costumes, it was all smiles and high fives from the first wave to the crowning of a champion! Many of the competitors have been practicing their skills in our Summer Surf Camps, Saturday Surf Camps and Private Surf Lessons all year and it showed!
We gave out some fun prizes to worthy winners, passed out exclusive Shredfest t-shirts (skeleton surfing in a tube of fire!), and celebrated an epic day of surfing, south swell, and Halloween vibes. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this year’s event such a success!

Shredfest Highlights 🎃
From the beginning to the final heat, the stoke was full on! The beach was alive with laughs, cheers, and a lineup of groms, locals, and seasoned surfers all ready to shred. The costumes did not disappoint either! We saw everything from surfers pulling into barrels to pirates, witches, and even a few superheroes dropping in on some scary ones!
The surf conditions were clean & glassy with just enough swell to keep things exciting. Between heats, everyone hung out at the tent area, trading stories, grabbing snacks, and snapping photos.

Contest Vibes & Winners
The judges had their hands full picking winners for both Best Surfing (assisted and non-assisted), Best Style and Best Costume. The creativity on display was unreal — and the talent matched it wave for wave. Huge shoutout to our Head Judge Chad Bonsack, Contest Director Dylan Sohngen and prize winners who all brought their A-game both in and out of the water!
And of course, every participant went home with an exclusive Shredfest tee and memories of a Halloween surf day to remember.

Are costumes required?
Yes – It’s a Halloween Surf celebration, we highly encourage everyone to dress up!
What is your student to instructor ratio?
At Aqua Surf, we stand out with our Premier Ratio Initiative, ensuring our students get the individual attention they deserve. Our expertly trained beach captains dynamically adjust ocean ratios based on surf conditions, safety measures, and the maturity and experience of the group (Learn More). This approach not only elevates safety but also optimizes one-on-one instruction in the water, thanks to our high number of skilled instructors.

How competitive is the contest?
This event is about fun — not a serious competition. Our instructors can help surfers of all levels, so even if younger kids can join and have a great time in the waves!
Can I use my existing surf camp 1/2 day credits?
Yes, you can use the same credits for Saturday half days as for Summer and Spring break camps. We like to keep it simple 🤙
What is the parking situation?
If you are just dropping off or picking up your surfer, tell the gate attendant (if they are there) and they will let you enter the lot without paying. If you stay, we recommend paying the attendant or kiosk.

We’ll just say it, we think our staff is awesome! We have Surf Instructors, Surf Camp Counselors, Camp Directors and Coaches who are passionate local surfers, sailors, students and all-around great humans. We’re thankful to do what we love by sharing surfing & the ocean with the next generation. We’ll be ready to get some waves and have some epic days!
